Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag didn’t mince words after a bizarre moment during Sunrisers Hyderabad’s latest IPL 2025 clash, where Ishan Kishan walked off the field despite not being dismissed. Sehwag called the act a "massive brain fade" and questioned the young batter's decision to leave without waiting for the umpire’s call.
The strange incident occurred during the first ball of the third over in Hyderabad’s innings. Ishan attempted to glance a leg-side delivery from Deepak Chahar, missed it entirely, and, without any appeal from Mumbai Indians players, turned around and started walking back to the pavilion. Replays clearly showed no contact between bat or body and the ball.
Reacting to the moment, Sehwag, speaking on Cricbuzz, said, “Many times, the mind fails to work at that moment. It was brain fade. Ruk toh jaa. Umpire bhi paise le rahe hai (At least stop and wait. The umpire is getting paid to make that call).”
He added, “Let the umpire do his job. I couldn’t understand this kind of honesty. If there was a clear edge, it would make sense in the spirit of the game. But here, even the umpire looked unsure, and suddenly Ishan walks off it makes no sense.”
SRH IPL 2025 playoff chances in doldrums
With this defeat, their sixth in eight matches, the team remains stuck at the ninth spot on the IPL 2025 table. Ishan, who had started the season with a century, has since endured a severe dip in form. His dismissal for just 1 run was a major blow as Hyderabad failed to build any momentum with the bat and crumbled under pressure from the Mumbai attack.
