Jaipur: Reverting one more decision of previous Congress rule in Rajasthan, the BJP government has decided to convert around 800 English medium government schools to Hindi.
“Government run English schools which have enrollment of less than 10 students will be converted to Hindi medium. Students of these schools who want to continue their studies in English medium will be given admission in the nearest Mahatma Gandhi English medium schools and transport vouchers will also be provided to them,” said Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa who is heading the Cabinet Sub Committee formed to review the Mahatma Gandhi English medium schools started by the previous Congress government in the state.
There are a total of 3737 government run English medium schools in the state. The previous Congress government converted the existing Hindi medium schools into English.
The BJP after assuming power had announced to review these schools, alleging that the Congress government started these schools without trained teachers and infrastructure.
Deputy CM Bairwa said that during the review, around 800 English medium schools have been found which have less than 10 students. Officials have been instructed to come with more details in the next meeting.
While the Education Minister Madan Dilawar said that Congress converted the Hindi medium schools to English in a hurry and did not create a single post or build a single room for these schools.
“The Congress government had ruined the future of children, now we are strengthening the infrastructure in schools and the vacant posts will also be filled," said Dilawar.
Reacting on the decision, retired senior teacher and president of a teachers' organization Ramakrishna Agarwal said that the decision may look regressive, but it is true that most of the English schools lack trained teachers and adequate infrastructure. Running such schools is waste of resources as these are not yielding desired results.
The decision has not gone well among the parents, as now they have to shift their wards to another school. Mohan Singh, father of a student said that instead of converting these schools again to Hindi medium, the government should male efforts to increase the enrollment and appoint trained teachers.
