Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The driver of a Gujarat-based bullion trader was booked for allegedly fleeing with gold ornaments worth Rs 4.8 crore from the city, police said on Wednesday. The accused had come to the city with an employee of the trader to show the quality of the gold ornaments to the local traders. The accused had not been arrested till the filing of the report.
Additional DCP (crime) Rajesh Dandotiya said that, according to Gujarat-based Dharmendra Bhai Lathigara’s complaint, he runs his gold shop in Ahmedabad and had sent his employee, Saurabh Panchal, with driver Masru Rabari, a resident of Banaskantha in Gujarat, to Indore to show gold jewellery weighing around 4.8 kilograms to the local traders on July 8. The duo had already visited traders in other cities, including Jhabua.

While keeping their luggage in the hotel, Panchal instructed Rabari to sit in the car with the bags containing gold ornaments for safety reasons. Panchal left for a haircut, and when he returned, he found the car parked there, but the driver and bags were missing.
Panchal searched for Rabari in the area before informing the trader. Later, Lathigara reached the city and lodged a complaint with the Crime Branch. A case under section 316 (2) of the BNS, and a team was constituted to arrest the accused.
