Bihar Polls 2025: Tejashwi Alleges Name Dropped, EPIC Changed; EC Says Details Intact In Draft Voter List

Patna: RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday created a flutter in political circles when he claimed that his name had been erased from the draft voter list and his EPIC number changed even as the Election Commission refuted his allegation by sharing the screenshot of his name and other details appearing in the list.    

The draft voter list was released by the Election Commission on Friday.  

Tejashwi told newspersons that he had filled the enumeration form during the special intensive revision of the electoral rolls in Bihar. “How will I contest the upcoming assembly elections?” he asked. He said that the booth level officer (BLO) concerned had personally collected his filled-in form, yet his name was not in the list. 

He also said that when he searched for his details using EPIC number RAB2916120 on the Election Commission’s portal, his name did not appear.

"EC used to mention how many people have shifted to other places, how many people are deceased, and how many people have duplicate names, but in the draft voter list provided to us by it, they have cleverly not given the address of any voter, no booth number, and no EPIC number, so that we cannot find whose names have been deleted from the voter list,” he added. He said that the EC did not provide reasons for the deletion of names from the voter list, calling it ‘Godi Commission’.

Meanwhile, Patna district magistrate cum district election officer Dr Thiyagarajan SM said, "It has been learned from some news sources that the name of the  leader of the opposition, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, is not included in the draft voter list for the special intensive revision. In this regard, an investigation was conducted by the district administration, Patna. It has been clarified that the name of the leader of the opposition is registered in the draft voter list."

"Currently, his name is listed at polling station number 204, the library building of Bihar Animal Sciences University, with serial number 416. Previously, his name was recorded at the library building of Bihar Animal Sciences University, polling station number 171, with serial number 481," he added. 

The DM clarified that the Leader of the Opposition’s EPIC number is RAB0456228. The same EPIC number was mentioned by him in the affidavit submitted during the Bihar Assembly Elections, 2020, where it can be seen at serial number 511. The Election Commission’s shared records confirmed that Tejaswi's name appears at serial number 416 in the draft voter list under EPIC number RAB0456228.

"Why did my EPIC number change?" he remarked while targeting the Election Commission. 

Political Reactions

BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya wrote on X, “This is extremely serious — if Tejashwi Yadav quoted an EPIC number different from what is recorded with the Election Commission and in his election affidavits, it could amount to criminal misconduct. But let’s be clear — this is not an isolated instance. The ongoing Special Intensive Revision is designed to detect and eliminate such duplicate or fraudulent entries, among other irregularities. Electoral integrity cannot be compromised, no matter how high-profile the individual.”
