In a one-of-a-kind initiative, the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare and Patanjali Yoggram signed a historic agreement under the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS). With this agreement, ex-servicemen and their families will now avail free treatment at Patanjali from yoga, Ayurveda, and naturopathy, without any cost constraint. A total of almost 6 million beneficiaries are likely to benefit from this move.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged by Major General M.P.S. Gill, Vishisht Seva Medal and GOC Uttarakhand Sub Area, and Swami Ramdev, after which there was a formal documentation exchange.

Addressing the audience at Patanjali University's Mini Auditorium, Swami Ramdev mentioned that saints and soldiers alike give their lives to serve the country in their own capacities. He thanked the Indian Army and stressed that this commitment must also be made by regular-duty soldiers, which Major General Gill agreed to positively.

Swami Ramdev pointed out that Patanjali is the only institution in the world, apart from a few exceptions, where more than 3,000 patients are admitted and they are planning to increase it to 5,000. Swami Ramdev declared that Patanjali will be introducing modern medical surgeries along with its integrated system of yoga, Ayurveda, naturopathy, and allopathy. He also added that yoga and Ayurveda have cured critical conditions such as cancer, diabetes, heart blockages, and spinal disorders based on thousands of proven cases.

Major General M.P.S. Gill noted that this agreement took considerable effort but will now set the stage for including current soldiers. He praised Swami Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna for their contribution, remarking that Patanjali’s integrated healthcare model-bringing yoga, Ayurveda, naturopathy, and allopathy together, is akin to railway tracks running parallel, complementing each other for holistic healing.

Acharya Balkrishna, General Secretary of Patanjali Yogpeeth, reminded that innovation and national service are the key strengths of Patanjali, guided by Swami Ramdev. He declared that all the ex-servicemen will be given the Patanjali Swadeshi Samriddhi Card without charge, and it has an accident insurance cover of ₹10 lakh as well.

Colonel Jitendra Kumar, Regional Director, ECHS, Dehradun, and Swami Aryadev, Head of Services at Yoggram, also inked the agreement. Colonel Kumar emphasized that this was the first such arrangement under ECHS, which has been a long-pending requirement of ex-servicemen to be treated under AYUSH-based treatment.
