Ending a 12-year wait for an Olympic shooting medal, Manu Bhaker kickstarted India’s medal tally at the Olympics with a bronze in the 10m air pistol event on Sunday. Manu’s alma mater Lady Shri Ram College for Women celebrated her win and shared in a statement, “The LSR fraternity is ecstatic and proud of the achievement of its alumna Manu Bhaker, who got India its first medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 .” LSR Principal Suman Sharma remembers her as a “quiet determined young woman who was bound to go places”. Meenakshi Pahuja, head of Physical Education and Sports, added, “On the first day of her admissions, Manu said, ‘I will make you proud’, and she has done it by scripting history. After her defeat in the last Olympics, Manu was disheartened. All of us at the college encouraged her and told her that this is not the end.”
