Add a contemporary twist to your Diwali party look

Send Push
What’s more stressful than attending a Diwali party everyday? Deciding what to wear! With invites specifying dress codes like ‘fusion ethnic’, ‘fun ethnic’ and ‘shades of cards,’ the choices are endless and opting for that ideal outfit can be quite a task. No matter the number of parties you attend, shopping for your closet and recreating looks with pieces you already own is the way to go. Influencers busy attending multiple parties share some tips on creating different looks, selecting accessories and dressing up in ethnic-wear with a contemporary twist for Diwali.
“When dressing for a Diwali card party, prioritise comfort with breathable fabrics and vibrant colours. A printed bottom paired with an off-shoulder blouse creates a chic yet festive look. A classic black or white blouse, along with statement tops, offers versatile styling options. Pair these with flowy palazzo pants for a casual look or wear them with lehengas for a more traditional look,” says Reha Adani, fashion influencer and content creator.

‘Opt for layering, style different pieces to create a unique look’
If you have already worn saris and kurtas in your closet, opt for ways to mix and match pieces to create a new look. “Diwali card parties are no longer small gatherings in Delhi, where everyone dresses up in ethnic, they are fun and the invites often come with dress codes. See how you can add a contemporary twist to your ethnic look. A kurta can be worn with a different set of palazzos, dhotis or dhoti pants to create a new look. Layering also helps create different looks. Opt for a jacket if you are wearing a simple kurta, add a heavy dupatta to elevate the entire look. Pre-draped saris can be a great option for those looking to buy something new. They are convenient and can be worn in different styles with blouses and jackets in your wardrobe,” says fashion influencer Deeksha Mishra.

Go for quirky accessories
“It is time to take out your quirky bags to add a fun element to your look. Choose something other than your designer handbags, look for cute, quirky bags, like the metallic ones in different shapes, micro bags or potlis. Headbands are a big relief for those who do not have time for elaborate hairstyles. It is one accessory that can be worn even if you decide to not wear any other jewellery,” adds Deeksha. “A basic tip to style accessories: if the outfit is blingy, go for minimal jewellery and vice-versa. Likewise, if you are going for heavy makeup and a fancy hairdo, wear minimum accessories,” says Samriddhi Uniyal, fashion content creator and influencer.
