Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia will meet Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday. They are also likely to discuss the next chief minister.
A party functionary told PTI, "Kejriwal and Sisodia will be meeting today. This will be the first meeting after the decision by them. The meeting is also likely to see a discussion over the next chief minister."
The meeting is slated to be held at the chief minister's official residence in the Civil Lines area.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced plans to resign and called for early elections in the capital. He emphasized he would only return as the chief minister once people give him a "certificate of honesty."
Kejriwal made this declaration after being released on bail from Tihar Jail in connection with a graft case related to the alleged Delhi excise scam. He stated he would convene a meeting with AAP MLAs in the coming days to appoint a new chief minister from his party.
The AAP leader specified that he and Manish Sisodia would take on their respective roles as chief minister and deputy chief minister "only when people say that we are honest." Sisodia recently received bail in the same excise policy case.
Following Kejriwal's announcement, speculation arose about his potential replacement, with names like his wife Sunita, and Delhi ministers Atishi and Gopal Rai being considered.
The term of the Delhi Assembly ends on February 23 next year, with elections anticipated in early February. Kejriwal framed his decision as a call for voters to judge his administration's honesty and allow early polls accordingly.
Kejriwal accused the BJP of attempting to portray him as corrupt and claimed their leaders' corruption prevents them from providing services like good schools and free electricity. "We are honest," he maintained.
Explaining his decision to party workers, Kejriwal said, "You must be wondering that he has just been released from jail, why is he resigning? The BJP has alleged that Kejriwal is a thief, Kejriwal is corrupt, Kejriwal has betrayed Bharat Mata. I did not come here to play this game of money from power and power from money, I came here to do something for the country."
