Who says a boyfriend earning Rs 42 LPA cannot be frugal? He waits 42 minutes to save Rs 80

In a world where convenience often comes with a price tag, a Delhi woman's boyfriend decided to take a stand against unnecessary expenses. Despite earning a hefty annual salary of Rs 42 lakh, he patiently waited for 42 minutes to avoid a Rs 80 surge charge on a quick-delivery app, Zepto. This incident, shared by Anu Srivastava on social media, has ignited a lively discussion online.

Anu Srivastava, a writer and artist, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the incident, revealing that her boyfriend, who earns Rs 42 LPA, chose to wait until Zepto's surge charge subsided instead of paying the additional Rs 80. She voiced her support for his decision, stating that his frugality shows not only how to earn wealth but also how to maintain it. "He’s a master at being rich and staying that way," Anu wrote.

Social Media Reactions

The post quickly gained traction, with many users applauding the boyfriend's financial discipline. "It's hard-earned money," commented X user Ratan Ranjan. "A girl dating a boy for money won’t understand it." Anu agreed with the sentiment, replying, "I respect his decision. It's about valuing the money you earn, no matter how much you make."

Other users shared similar thoughts. Amit Misra commented, "Financial planning level: CEO salary, college student spending," while Meeth Desai added, "Nothing wrong with it. In fact, I’m impressed that despite his big salary, he’s conscious of saving small amounts."

Some users even offered their own tips for beating surge pricing. One user, Aaraynsh, humorously shared, "During surge pricing, I order food from Zomato, call the delivery guy, and ask him to bring milk on the way, then tip him instead—win-win for both."

While many praised the boyfriend's thrifty mindset, some questioned whether such extreme patience was necessary, given his income level. Nevertheless, the broader conversation highlighted the importance of financial mindfulness, regardless of one's earnings. As one user, Aman, noted, "Being rich and staying rich are two different things."

Zepto’s Recent Controversy

This viral post comes amid other controversies surrounding Zepto. Recently, the delivery service faced backlash for sending an inappropriate marketing message. Pallavi Pareek, a legal expert, took to LinkedIn to express her anger after receiving a notification from Zepto that read, "I miss you, Pallavi, says i-pill Emergency Contraceptive pill." Pallavi, who was shocked by the unsolicited message, responded, "I’ve never ordered an emergency pill from you. Even if I had, it’s not something that should be missing me."

Zepto has since issued an apology, but the incident, combined with the ongoing discussion about surge charges, has led to increased scrutiny of the company’s practices. Many users expressed frustration with e-commerce platforms that prioritize marketing over customer experience.

In Anu’s case, her boyfriend’s determination to avoid paying Rs 80 may have seemed trivial to some, but for others, it was a commendable example of thoughtful spending.
