Bollywood has seen its fair share of big romances, but few have left a lasting impression like the one between Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai. Once considered a golden couple of the late '90s and early 2000s, their love story began on the sets of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999). Though it reportedly lasted only about three years, their relationship was intensely followed by fans and the media alike. Now, years later, veteran actress Himani Shivpuri has recently talked about their relationship.

Himani Shivpuri opens up about Aishwarya-Salman relationship

Speaking on Red FM Podcasts, Shivpuri opened up about her own bond with Aishwarya Rai, which began on the sets of Aa Ab Laut Chalein. At the time, Aishwarya was still carving out her place in the industry, and the two actresses grew close while working together. Their friendship extended over multiple films, including Humara Dil Aapke Paas Hai and Umrao Jaan.

According to Shivpuri, during the time she worked with Aishwarya, Salman Khan was a frequent visitor on set. She recalled, “This was the time when she and Salman were going very strong, so Salman used to come every night and leave in the morning.” It was clear that he was deeply involved in the relationship, often appearing unannounced to spend time with Aishwarya.


However, Shivpuri also witnessed the darker side of their romance. She hinted at Salman’s possessiveness, which was visible through his regular presence on Aishwarya's film sets. One particular incident that stood out to Shivpuri happened when Aishwarya was filming a Rohan Sippy project with Abhishek Bachchan. She remembered Salman showing up unexpectedly and expressing his frustration over Aishwarya’s attitude. He allegedly compared her to veteran actress Waheeda Rehman and said, "‘Kya hai? Isko samjhao. Waheeda Rehman ko dekhe. Apne aap ko boht khubsurat samajhti hai (What is this? Explain to her. Look at Waheeda Rehman. She thinks she’s very beautiful)’ I used to tell him to calm down, to stay quiet."


Despite witnessing these emotional moments, Shivpuri chose not to speculate on the reason behind their breakup. She simply stated that sometimes things don’t work out, and only the people involved truly understand why.

For the unversed, Salman and Aishwarya officially parted ways in 2002, after which they never worked together again. Later, in 2007, Aishwarya tied the knot with Abhishek Bachchan. The couple welcomed their daughter Aaradhya in 2011 and continue to be one of Bollywood’s most admired families.
