PM Modi on Friday unveiled the massive PM Viksit Bharat Rozgaar Yojana of Rs 1 lakh crore aimed at empowering India’s youth during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort. The scheme is set to kick in from Friday itself, informed the prime minister.

Under the programme, individuals will receive direct financial support of Rs 15,000 each, aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, skill development, and self-reliance among young Indians.

The prime minister also noted the role of women in India’s economic growth. “Two crore women have become ‘lakhpati didis’ in no time. Several of them are seated in front of me here at the Red Fort,” he said, praising their contributions.

Addressing farmers, the PM Modi said, “Farmers contribute a lot to our economy. They have made India the top producer of several commodities."

Meanwhile, PM Modi also announced that next-generation GST reforms would be implemented by Diwali, with the goal of reducing taxes on everyday-use items.

“I am going to give a great gift on Diwali. In the last eight years, we carried out a major reform in GST and simplified the tax system. Now it is the demand of the time to review it. We have consulted the states and are bringing the next-generation GST reform,” he said from the ramparts of the Red Fort.

The reforms, he added, are expected to drastically reduce the tax burden on citizens, particularly benefiting small industries and MSMEs, while making daily-use products more affordable.

India is celebrating its 79th Independence Day on Friday, under cloudy, damp skies with with light rain in the air. At the heart of the celebrations, PM Modi delivered his 12th consecutive Independence Day address — and his second since securing a third term — from the ramparts of Delhi’s historic Red Fort.
