Actor Sahil Khan's attempt to evade arrest in connection to the Rs 15,000 crore Mahadev betting app case came to a halt on Saturday as he was apprehended in Chhattisgarh's Jagdalpur, nearly 1,800 km away from Mumbai. Khan embarked on a cross-country journey spanning five states over four days after his anticipatory bail plea was dismissed by a court.

Khan's evasion tactics included constantly changing his whereabouts after he fled the city on April 24, following the rejection of his anticipatory bail plea by the Bombay High Court. Authorities were continuously pursuing him, utilizing location tracking to monitor his movements across various regions, including Gadchiroli in Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Telangana, and ultimately Chhattisgarh.

Despite his efforts, authorities managed to track him down in Hyderabad, prompting Khan to hastily navigate towards Chhattisgarh, even through a Maoist-prone region, despite his driver's reservations about the safety of the route at night.

However, Khan's luck ran out when police arrested him at the Aradhya International Hotel in Jagdalpur. Upon his arrest, authorities seized two mobile phones and a sum of cash from Khan, who has been remanded in police custody until May 1 by a Mumbai court.

Allegedly involved in the promotion of betting platforms like Lion Book and Lotus 24/7, with links to the Mahadev app, Khan has been under scrutiny since December 2023 when the Mumbai Crime Branch summoned him, along with three others, for interrogation. Police assert that Khan not only endorsed the Lion Book app but also actively participated in promotional activities for the platform.

However, Khan maintains that he lacks direct affiliation with the gambling platform.

Mahadev Betting App case
The Mahadev betting app, operated by Saurabh Chandrakar from Chhattisgarh and Ravi Uppal from Dubai, utilized paid advertisements on social media to attract users to bet on outcomes of various sports events, including IPL matches, football, and tennis. Actors Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, and Tamannaah Bhatia were also summoned for their involvement in promoting the betting app and its affiliated platforms.

The app's customers were provided with two distinct numbers for depositing betting funds and withdrawing winnings. These accounts were established through fraudulent means, and bets were manipulated to ensure the company's profitability. While some users initially experienced gains, many ended up facing substantial losses over time.
