In a heartbreaking incident in Lucknow, a 48-year-old cloth merchant allegedly died by suicide along with his wife and teenage daughter after consuming poison. The tragedy happened in the Ashrafabad area under the Chowk police station on Monday morning.

All three, Shobhit Rastogi (48), his wife Shuchita (45), and their 16-year-old daughter Khyati, were found unconscious in their flat. Police said foam was coming out of their mouths, suggesting poisoning.

The police were alerted around 5 am by Shobhit’s younger daughter, who survived. She called her uncle Shekhar Rastogi, who then informed the police. The three were rushed to the KGMU Trauma Centre but were declared dead on arrival.

A suicide note found at the scene stated that the family was under extreme stress due to financial problems. Shobhit reportedly wrote that they could no longer bear the burden of debt.

According to DCP Vishwajeet Srivastava, Shobhit had taken a bank loan to run his cloth shop in Rajajipuram. But the business was not doing well, and he was struggling to repay the debt.

The police also found broken bangles scattered on the floor, which may indicate emotional distress or a struggle. Forensic teams are examining the flat, and further investigation is ongoing.
