A 19-year-old woman from Aligarh was allegedly murdered and beheaded by her father, stepmother, and step-grandfather in Hathras in what police have termed an “honour killing” over suspicion of “disgracing” the family. The three were arrested on Wednesday.

Hathras SP Chiranjeev Natha Singh said, “On Aug 10, residents of Bahradoi village discovered a sack with a headless body in a canal. The head was recovered shortly after.”

The victim was identified as Tamanna, daughter of Hasrat Ali (40). Police stated Ali married Firdos in 2005 and had two daughters. He separated from her six years ago and later married Rani (38).

According to the investigation, in July, Tamanna left home with a man from the same village but returned two days later. This angered Ali and Rani, who beat her. Following another dispute, Tamanna began living with her uncle, Ali’s brother.

On August 8, she left again but was stopped by Ali and Rani. Believing she was “defaming” the family, Ali allegedly discussed the matter with his father-in-law, Rajjo, who advised “dealing with it” immediately. That night, they allegedly laced her food with intoxicants, strangled her, and, once she lost consciousness, took her to the canal. Police said Ali then severed her head.
