Katrina Kaif has gained a name for herself for being an A+ dancer. Over the years, the actress had delivered some hit songs such as ‘Chikni Chameli’, ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’, ‘Afghan Jalebi’, ‘Kamli’, etc., where she showcased her amazing dancing skills. However, her choreographer, Terence Lewis, revealed that those twinkle toes did not come to the star easily and she worked hard.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Lewis said Kaif initially struggled with maintaining rhythm and being fluid in her dance steps. "I remember her coming to my studio way back when Boom had just released. She was doing a diamond jewelry show. We were trying to teach her. She was also very young, fresh to India, very like, ‘What am I supposed to do?’ And it wasn’t very Bollywood, we kept it more Western, but still, she was struggling with the dance steps. Rhythm was not there,” he told the magazine.
Five years later, Lewis was astounded when he saw Kaif shake a leg in the hit song ‘Zara Zara Touch Me’ for the movie ‘Race.’
After seeing her impeccable moves, he called up choreographer Bosco Martis, who heaped praises on Kaif.
"I remember her coming to my studio way back when Boom had just been released, and we were doing a diamond jewelry show, and we were trying to teach her, and she was also very young fresh to India, very like 'what am I supposed to do?' and it was not very Bollywood. We kept it more Western, but still, it was not... I was like 'she is struggling with the dance step', the rhythm was not there, and then cut to Zara Zara Touch Me, I called up, 'Bossy, tune kya kar diya (What have you done)?’ and he was like this girl works very hard... She is working... amazing and in Chikni Chameli, you know all the songs...crazy! That girl has worked hard— that’s a great story," he said.
“She wasn’t trained as a dancer. And she was very tall and statuesque, a big built. How she’s worked on her body! How she’s worked on her dance! Commendable," he said.
On the work front, Kaif last appeared in the romantic thriller ‘Merry Christmas’ opposite Vijay Sethupathi.
