State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited unveiled its new logo along with seven new initiatives cutting across security, affordability, and reliability aspects to improve connectivity across rural and urban areas.
The state-run telecom company announced a spam-blocking solution that automatically filters out and blocks phishing attempts and malicious SMSes. The company also announced national Wi-Fi roaming service for BSNL FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) customers enabling high-speed internet access across the country at no extra charge.
The telecom provider also introduced a first of its kind fiber-based intranet TV service with over 500 live channels. The company said the data used in consuming television content will not eat up broadband data packs.
BSNL also announced a direct-to-device connectivity solution converging satellite and terrestrial mobile networks to deliver seamless connectivity. The service will allow sending text messages and making UPI payments in areas where no terrestrial network is present.
The state-run telecom company will also offer encrypted communication for government and relief agencies in the event of a disaster and crises. The service will use drone-based and balloon-based systems to extend coverage during disasters.
The company also unveiled the first captive 5G network for coal mines in India. In partnership with C-DAC and using locally made 5G equipment, the network will enable advanced AI and IoT applications in underground mines and large opencast mines. Applications include safety analytics, real-time remote control of equipment and augmented-reality enabled remote maintenance, fleet tracking and optimisation.
