German National Tourism Board to pitch new luxury stays, honeymoon packages to Indians

Germany earned almost 1 billion Euros in revenue from Indian trips in 2023. The target is to boost revenues by 10% from India next year besides pitching new luxury accommodation options for Indian travellers and other India only campaigns targeted at honeymooners in the country, said Petra Hedorfer, CEO of German National Tourism Board. The German National Tourist Board (GNTB) works on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action to represent Germany as a tourist destination and is funded by the Ministry in accordance with a decision taken by the German Bundestag.

She said in order to continue participating in the rapid growth of the Indian outbound market, the German National Tourist Board (GNTB) is systematically expanding its market activities on the subcontinent.

“In view of the changing conditions, especially technological developments, we are also organizing a high-profile delegation trip with top managers from the German travel industry next spring with the GNTB India Digital Travel Knowledge Tour,” said Hedorfer.

Germany registered 5,23,000 overnight stays from India between January to July 2024. Indian guests generated 826,000 overnight stays in hotels and guesthouses in Germany in 2023, an increase of 33% compared to 2022.

The German National Tourism Board said with a recovery rate of 86%, the Indian market is recovering much faster from the Covid-19 pandemic than all other Asian countries. Tourism Economics forecasts 1.6 million overnight stays from India in Germany every year by the end of the decade.

Hedorfer shared that almost 60% of guests from Indian travelled to Germany for leisure in 2023 and most Indians came to Germany for round trips.

Technological innovation and networking with the international travel industry are the central themes of the delegation trip under the GNTB India Digital Travel Knowledge Tour next year, wherein CEOs from the German travel industry will meet ‘forward-looking’ Indian tech and travel companies in Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai. Honeymoon in Germany will be an exclusive campaign for India next year.

The GNTB is launching an India Pool for the second time in 2025 to bundle its market development efforts in India. Hedorfer said the GNTB is investing in the Indian market together with the German travel industry, which is predominantly made up of SMEs, in order to increase brand awareness of Germany as a travel destination and tap into the market potential more effectively.
