Mumbai Indians (MI) batter has achieved a milestone by crossing 4000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history. The MI middle-order batter has been in brilliant form this season. He scored a quickfire 54 runs off 28 balls against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 27.
The right-handed batter holds the Orange Cap for the season currently. In 10 innings, Yadav has scored 427 runs at an average of 61.00. He is known for his 360-degree shot-hitting ability, and can effortlessly find gaps all around the ground to score boundaries.
He made his IPL debut for MI in 2012, and played in just one match that season. In 2014, he was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and found success as a finisher by consistently smashing boundaries in the death overs. MI bought him back for the 2018 IPL, and from then on he has been a key player, consistently delivering strong performances throughout the IPL seasons.
"It's the first time I am wearing this (Orange) cap after a long time, feels really special. I was really happy when we lost the toss, because it is really hot out there but scoring 200-plus it is really good from a batting point of view. It's a good score and I feel the wicket is a little slow and I feel it is going to be challenging out there for their batting line-up, let's see how it goes," said Suryakumar Yadav during the innings break.
Fastest to reach 4000-run mark in the IPL (by balls)Suryakumar Yadav has become the third-fastest batter to reach 4000 runs in the IPL, achieving the milestone in just 2714 balls. South African legend AB de Villiers holds the record for reaching 4000 runs in the fewest deliveries and is followed by West Indies opener Chris Gayle. In the top-five, Australian batter David Warner and former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina hold the fourth and fifth place respectively.
