Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT) will face each other in Match 60 of . Notably, GT are on the verge of qualifying for the IPL 2025 playoffs, while the Capitals still have some work to do in that regard.
Table-toppers GT emerged on the right side of a rain-shortened thriller against MI in Mumbai. GT made early inroads, but Suryakumar Yadav's fifty and his crucial partnership with Will Jacks brought MI back into the game. GT struck back again at the death to keep MI restricted to a low total.
Shubman Gill's outfit navigated challenging conditions amidst the threat of rain. GT kept chasing towards the DLS target rather than the actual one and managed to keep the target within reach. Sherfane Rutherford played an impactful cameo that put GT ahead on DLS when the rain finally intervened. Eventually, there was a resumption, but Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, and Ashwani Kumar struck back with a flurry of wickets before the second interruption of the match.
When the match resumed, GT needed 15 runs off the last over, to be bowled by Deepak Chahar. The tension was palpable in an over that went 4, 1, 6, 2nb, 1, W, 1 as GT got home by three wickets.
DC's last match was an eventful one against Punjab Kings in Dharamsala. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya's fifties led to a stand of 122 runs in just ten overs between them. T Natarajan removed the latter, but at that very moment, the floodlights went off. Eventually, the game was called off, and the IPL was suspended the next day.
It was then decided that the Dharamsala encounter would be declared void, with player records not being counted and the game to be restarted at a later date. DC's last match before that was a no-result against SRH in Hyderabad. DC had entered the game against SRH with two losses in a row, and it has been 25 days since Delhi last won a match in IPL 2025.
The two teams met once before this season. In Ahmedabad, all of DC's batters got starts, while Tristan Stubbs' finish took them to a strong total. GT followed their proven template of letting the top three take charge of proceedings. Jos Buttler made an unbeaten 97 and built strong partnerships with Sai Sudharsan and Sherfane Rutherford to take GT home in the last over.
