Delhi Capitals (DC) played the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition under David Warner’s captaincy, with Rishabh Pant staying away from cricketing action due to a major accident in December 2022. Under the veteran Australia player, DC produced their worst performance in the last four years.
The 2020 IPL runners-up ended up in the ninth position on the points table with five wins and nine losses in 14 games. Considering their team’s dismal performance in the 16th IPL edition, the DC team management will look to part ways with some players who failed to play their part efficiently.
Here are three players DC might release before IPL 2023 3. Rovman PowellRovman Powell got three games in the IPL 2023 installment, and he didn’t look confident with his bat. The right-handed batter scored only seven runs in three innings at a strike rate of 77.77. After the Mumbai Indians (MI) match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, he didn’t get a chance to play any game for DC.
Playing against the five-time champions, Powell gave his wicket to Piyush Chawla after contributing only four runs to his team. Following this failure, captain Warner preferred the South Africa batter Rilee Rossouw over the West Indies stalwart to fill the number four spot.
Powell struggled to be among the runs in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 as well, scoring only 193 runs for Barbados Royals in nine matches at an average of 32.16. Noting his underwhelming numbers, the DC team management might not include him in their retention list for IPL 2024.
2. Mustafizur RahmanMustafizur Rahman put up a disappointing show with the ball for the Capitals in IPL 2023. Appearing in two games, he bowled horrendous spells that cost the team. Playing his maiden game of the competition against MI, he took the prized scalp of Rohit Sharma but also leaked 38 runs in his four-over spell.
Rahman looked horrendous with the ball in his next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as well. The Bangla pacer bowled three overs in the match and splurged 41 runs without getting any wickets. These numbers also made him the most expensive bowler in the game.
Mustafizur isn’t looking in great touch for Bangladesh as well nowadays as he has failed to do wonders for his national side in mega tournaments such as Asia Cup 2023 and World Cup 2023. Considering his recent form, DC might make the tough decision of releasing the Bangladesh stalwart and adding some new bowling sensation to their squad in the upcoming auction in Dubai.

1. Manish PandeyManish Pandey’s responsibility was to reinforce DC’s top order along with young Prithvi Shaw and his captain Warner in IPL 2023. Relying on his vast league experience and superb batting skills, the Capitals roped him in at INR 2.4 crore in the IPL 2023 auction held in Kochi.
Pandey played 10 matches in the season and accumulated only 160 runs in nine matches at a sub-par strike rate of 109.58. In his nine outings, he failed to score in double digits four times, amassing two ducks. Pandey has been out of form for a long time as he hasn’t done anything special for Karnataka recently in India’s domestic circuit.
In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023-24, the 34-year-old scored only 39 runs in three innings of four contests at an extremely low average of 13.00. Pandey’s terrible form could lead to his exit from the DC camp before the business event to be held in Dubai on December 19.
