New Delhi [India], October 3 (ANI): DMK leader TKS Elangovan reiterated Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin's statement that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was using the Karur stampede tragedy for political mileage. He slammed the BJP for sending a fact-finding team to Karur.
He alleged that if the BJP filed a case against Vijay, then the actor would be compelled to join the BJP.
TKS Elangovan said, "People were made to wait from 8 am. Vijay was about to speak at 12 pm, but they were made to wait until 7.30 pm in the scorching sun without water or food. Any fool can understand that this is the reason why people faint. But nobody took care of the people who fainted there. They rushed to see Vijay. When Vijay arrived, the people were already in a bad state. In this situation, anybody will understand the reason behind this. However, I do not understand why the BJP has immediately sent a team of MPs to Karur to inspect the place. All they have to do is analyse the situation, and they will find out the reason. But they didn't do that."
"If the place which was sought by Vijay had been given, then the casualties would have been much more because it is narrower. In this place, Edappadi K Palaniswami had already had a roadshow. That place is sufficient for 20,000 people. But Vijay was waiting because there was no crowd earlier and they started collecting crowd from various places. Earlier in the day, Vijay addressed a gathering at Namakkal. Namakkal to Karur takes 1 hour. He should have come by 1 pm in afternoon but he came at 7.30 pm. Earlier, DMK conducted a meeting in Karur in a field, and more than 1.5 lakh people attended. Everything went smoothly. Why did TVK want a roadshow? Amid all these things, the BJP's drama is something special. That's what our chief minister mentioned," he added.
He further alleged that the BJP wants to capitalise on the situation for political gain. "If the BJP files a case against Vijay, then Vijay will fall at their feet and Vijay will join the BJP," he added.
Earlier, TN CM M.K. Stalin on Friday accused the BJP of using the Karur stampede tragedy for political mileage, saying the party's response was driven by upcoming elections rather than "genuine concern" and added that the BJP "survives by sucking someone else's blood."
While inaugurating development projects in Ramanathapuram district, CM Stalin criticised the BJP party and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for rushing to Karur after the stampede, stating that the Centre had ignored Tamil Nadu during previous disasters.
He said, "When Tamil Nadu was struck by three major disasters, affecting thousands of people, the Union BJP Finance Minister neither visited nor provided any funds. But now, she immediately rushes to Karur. The BJP, which did not send inquiry commissions for the Manipur riots, Gujarat incidents, or the Kumbh Mela deaths, is now promptly sending a team to Karur, not out of any genuine concern for Tamil Nadu, but simply because elections are due next year."
On September 27, the Karur stampede claimed the lives of atleast 41 people, with more than 100 people injured. The incident occurred at Velusamypuram, on the Karur-Erode Highway, following a large crowd gathering for a political rally. Reportedly, Vijay's arrival was delayed by several hours. (ANI)
