Send Push
Hyundai Motor has revealed the new Hyundai Nexo hydrogen fuel cell SUV globally. The Nexo in its second generation is based on the 2024 Initium concept , and the hydrogen-powered SUV also features Hyundai’s ‘Art of Steel’ design language, distinguishing itself from both battery electric and traditional internal combustion engine models. The Nexo will be launched globally sometime in 2025 and the India launch is not expected to happen anytime soon due to a lack of hydrogen-filling pumps.

In terms of design, Nexo’s styling draws heavy influence from the Initium concept concept model. Both the front and rear feature grid-style lighting inspired by Hyundai’s ‘HTWO’ (Hydrogen for Humanity) identity, while the bumpers incorporate H-shaped inserts finished in a contrasting silver tone, standing out against the darker body cladding. Positioned above the emblem are four HTWO light units on both the front and rear, designed to resemble the letter ‘H’ in Morse code.

Enhancing its bold, off-road-ready look are black accent fender flares. The side profile showcases angular window lines with sharp corners, and the C-pillar is notably thick, creating a visual break in the glass area for a more distinctive silhouette. Other exterior highlights include flush door handles, aero-designed 18-inch wheels, a raked roof line, an integrated spoiler, front and rear diffusers and more.

It features twin 12.3-inch screens - one for touchscreen infotainment and another for digital cluster, HUD display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, OTA updates, a 14-speaker Bang and Olufsen sound system , wireless charger, V2L (vehicle to load), column-type shifter, touch panel for climate controls, a wireless smartphone charger, a digital rear-view mirror and more. Safety-wise, the Nexo is built on a reinforced multi-frame architecture designed to safeguard both occupants and its hydrogen fuel system. It also incorporates up to nine airbags and comes loaded with a suite of Level 2 ADAS features .

Talking about the powertrain, the Nexo comes with a small 2.64 kWh battery pack with a 147-horsepower hydrogen fuel cell system. The electric motor delivers 201 horsepower, enabling the vehicle to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.8 seconds. For hydrogen storage, the system includes a 6.69 kg tank. Altogether, this advanced setup is engineered to deliver a driving range exceeding 700 kilometres on a full tank (claimed).
