To reduce accidents on Delhi roads and give people a safe travel experience, the Delhi Traffic Police has partnered with Google. Under this, such 'black spots' of the capital's roads will be visible on Google Maps, where most accidents occur. By seeing the 'black spot', drivers will be alerted in time and accidents can be avoided.
What is a 'black spot'?
A 'black spot' is a place where many road accidents have occurred within a radius of 500 meters. If accidents occur repeatedly on a part of a road, then the midpoint of that part is marked as a 'black spot'. In the year 2024, 111 such black spots were identified in Delhi, where 1,132 accidents occurred, in which 483 people died and 649 people were injured.
Dangerous turns and areas will be visible on Google Maps.
According to Delhi Traffic Police DCP (Traffic Headquarters) Shiv Keshari Singh, "We are doing a tie-up with Google and internal processes are going on." He says that this initiative aims to alert the passengers by giving them timely information and reduce road deaths.

Busy corridors like the Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, and GT Karnal Road are still the most dangerous. The Delhi Police is also working with road-owning agencies to improve signage and road design at these places.
