Students aspiring to pursue higher education at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), one of India’s most prestigious institutions, now have their final chance to secure admission into postgraduate programs for the academic session 2025-26. The university has announced that the mop-up round of counseling will be held on September 6, 2025, offering students who missed out in earlier rounds an opportunity to claim vacant seats.
Final Window for Admission into BHU PG CoursesBHU attracts thousands of students each year, but not everyone manages to secure a seat during the regular or spot counseling rounds. For such candidates, the university has introduced this last and only mop-up round, specifically designed to fill remaining vacancies in postgraduate courses.
Eligible candidates must report to the university in person and apply through offline mode on the scheduled date. Applications will be accepted only on September 6 between 10 AM and 4 PM at the concerned department or center.
Who Can Participate in Mop-Up Counseling? The mop-up round is open only to students who have already appeared for the BHU postgraduate entrance test and qualified, including those who cleared group discussions, interviews, or practical/physical tests where applicable.
However, eligibility is strictly limited to candidates who:
-
Did not secure a seat in the regular or spot rounds.
-
Cancelled or withdrew their previously allotted seat.
-
Failed to deposit the admission fee earlier.
-
Are still on the waiting list.
This ensures that only genuinely unplaced candidates are considered for the remaining seats.
Admission Based on MeritAs with previous rounds, seat allocation will be based on merit. Candidates must carry all necessary documents along with a demand draft of ₹2,000 drawn in favor of “The Registrar, Banaras Hindu University.” This demand draft acts as a security deposit during the counseling process.
The university has also clarified that the mop-up round will be conducted only once and no option for upgradation will be available. Additionally, from September 2 until the mop-up round is completed, students will not be able to surrender previously allotted seats, allowing the university to have a clear count of available vacancies.
Result Within 48 HoursCandidates will not have to wait long for the outcome. BHU has announced that the results of the mop-up counseling will be declared within 48 hours of its completion. Final admission results will also be published shortly after.
Importantly, if a student is allotted a seat but fails to pay the admission fee on time, their demand draft will be forfeited. On the other hand, students who either do not get a seat or complete their admission process successfully will have their demand drafts returned immediately.
