Send Push

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is set to grant equivalence to 10th and 12th-grade certificates issued by all education boards across India. The Ministry of Education has officially notified this decision in the e-Gazette, aiming to simplify admissions and employment processes for students nationwide.

Key Highlights
  • Direct Benefits for Students:
This move will help students during admissions to higher education institutions and recruitment for government jobs by providing uniform recognition of their board certificates.

  • Simplified Migration:
Students will now experience easier transfers (migration) between different school education boards across the country. Certificates recognized by NCERT will have universal validity across India, ensuring inter-board transparency and consistency.

  • Responsible Authority:
The responsibility for determining equivalence has been assigned to NCERT under the National Assessment Center – PARAKH, established under National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. PARAKH will ensure that the equivalence process is academically robust and transparent, maintaining high educational standards.

  • Boards Covered:

    • Education boards established by the Central or State Government

    • Boards formed through Parliament or State Legislature Acts

    • Boards set up by Executive Orders

    • Statutory bodies and recognized institutions with authority to issue certificates

  • Replacement of Previous System:
This new notification replaces the earlier system of 15 November 2021, where equivalence responsibilities were with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Impact on Students
  • Higher Education Admissions: Students can now get uniform recognition of their certificates when applying to colleges and universities.

  • Employment Opportunities: Government jobs requiring board-level qualifications will accept NCERT-approved equivalence nationwide.

  • Inter-Board Transfers: Easier migration between boards ensures smooth academic continuity for students moving across states or boards.
