Woman, 88, 'assaulted by conman who blagged his way into her home posing as official'

Footage has been released of a man police urgently want to speak to after an 88-year-old woman was left seriously injured during a "violent".

A man tricked his way into the home of the elderly woman in Erdington, in the West Midlands, and she was attacked by the intruder. The victim remains in hospital and is in a serious condition, said .

The force said the woman has been targeted by a man posing as a council official or an employee for a water company, stating that he needs to check their taps. It is the latest in a string of similar incidents where an imposter has tricked his way into properties in , Sandwell and Solihull.

Police have now issued a video of a man they desperately want to speak to in connection with the investigation. The footage shows the man hurriedly making his way across a road and anyone who recognises him should call 999 immediately.

In a statement, police said a man appears to be targeting elderly woman for his distraction burglaries and they have appealed to the public for help in the investigation, reported . It said: "We are continuing to appeal for your help to track down this man. Detectives want to speak to him in connection with multiple distraction-burglary offences that have took place across Birmingham, in September.

"A man is believed to have been targeting elderly women, by posing as a council official or an employee for a water company, stating that he needs to check their taps. During one of the incidents, an 88-year-old woman was assaulted at her address in Erdington, and she remains in hospital in a serious condition."
