Speak No Evil's James McAvoy hits out as he tells stars to 'publicise their own f***ing films'

James McAvoy said he is tired of talking about projects he hasn't worked on during interviews as he urged actors and producers to "publicise their own f-ing films".

The 45-year-old Scottish actor made the comments during a chat with Cinema Blend. He spoke about the release of the new thriller "Speak No Evil", directed by James Watkins, which came out on September 12. In the film, James plays Paddy, a family man who invites a couple he meets during a holiday to his family's home in rural England - but it turns out to be a visit from hell.

But in a clip from his chat with Cinema Blend, which was shared online, the actor said he is annoyed about the fact that often during interviews he is asked about unrelated projects he hasn't worked on. He said: "You know what's really annoying though? I'm here to talk about this movie and you want to get some press out there to get people to go bums on seats, and then you kind of notice like, oh no, the first five headlines with your name attached to them is something about some other movie, something about some, and you're like, "Oh, God d--n it."

He added that his solution is to now make it clear, during interviews, that he doesn't want to talk about other people's movies, laughing as he light-heartedly told his interviewer: "Do you know what, I'm not here to talk about that. They can publicise their own f--ing film."

"Speak No Evil" has a score of 83 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes and is proving popular among viewers including one who praised James' "standout" performance saying: "This movie delivers a deeply unsettling and gripping psychological thriller that keeps you on edge from start to finish. The film masterfully explores themes of fear, guilt, and moral dilemmas, with a narrative that gradually escalates tension and suspense.

"Its slow-burn approach allows for a truly immersive experience, where every interaction feels charged with hidden menace. The cinematography and sound design amplify the eerie atmosphere, making even the quiet moments feel unnerving. James McAvoy's performance is a standout. He brings a remarkable level of emotional depth and nuance to his role, effortlessly transitioning between vulnerability and intensity.

"His portrayal is raw, layered, and deeply human, allowing the audience to connect with his character's internal struggles. McAvoy has always been known for his acting range, but in Speak No Evil, he reaches new heights, grounding the horror with a believable and empathetic performance. It's one of those roles that will linger with you long after the film ends."

The Universal Pictures movie is currently being streamed in cinemas in the US and will then stream on Peacock. The movie will also be available for purchase through premium video on demand such as Prime Video, Apple TV+ and YouTube.
