Sophie Turner poses alongside notorious jewel thief Joan Hannington as they launch ITV drama

Actress Sophie Turner, 28, was joined by jewel thief Joan Hannington at the launch of ITV drama Joan in London.

Turner, who went Instagram official with her new boyfriend earlier this week, wore a cream jacket and trousers at the event for the new series, which is inspired by the real life story of the thief. Hannington, who will be played by Turner, wore a yellow, red and blue outfit, with a light blue necklace.

Joining the pair in the capital's Jack Solomons Club were fellow cast members Gershwyn Eustache Jr, Kirsty J Curtis, Laura Aikman and Frank Dillane, along with producer Ruth Kenley-Letts, writer Anna Symon, and director Richard Laxton. Joan will follow Hannington's multifaceted life in the 1980s as a mother, lover, liar, and one of Britain's most notorious thieves.

The six-part series was written by Symon from Hannington's memoirs and the thief was consulted during the writing process. Turner is best known for playing Sansa Stark in Game Of Thrones and has also starred in 2022's The Staircase starring Colin Firth and Netflix film Do Revenge, as well as superhero film Dark Phoenix in 2019. The first episode of Joan will air on ITV1 and ITVX at 9pm on Sunday, September 29, with the second episode airing on Monday, September 30 at the same time.

Turner revealed earlier this year how her Joan castmates helped her through her marriage breakdown. Speaking in May, the mum-of-two said she had the “worst few days” of her life following her split from singer Joe Jonas. The British actress, 28, who played Sansa Stark in HBO’s hit fantasy series Game Of Thrones, and Jonas, 34, confirmed the end of their four-year marriage in September 2023.

She reflected on the period after they released a joint statement saying the split was "amicable" and pleading for "privacy for us and our children". Speaking to British Vogue about tabloid stories that speculated she and Jonas had different lifestyles, Turner said: "Those were the worst few days of my life.

"I remember I was on set, I was contracted to be on set for another two weeks, so I couldn’t leave. My kids were in the (United) States and I couldn’t get to them because I had to finish (the ITV show) Joan. And all these articles started coming out…" She added: "It hurt because I really do completely torture myself over every move I make as a mother – mum guilt is so real. I just kept having to say to myself, ‘None of this is true. You are a good mum and you’ve never been a partier.’"

Turner says she was "still in shock" about the coverage, and she lent on the cast of Joan, about the criminal Joan Hannington, for "emotional support". She also credited singer Taylor Swift for being "an absolute hero to me this year" and said she has "never been more grateful to anyone than I am for her because she took my children and me, and provided us with a home and a safe space."
