A young Camilla once 'came in late' after night out partying and was sacked from her job, according to a former colleague.

Details of the infamous incident are told in the a book 'On The Fringe - A Life In Decorating' by designer Imogen Taylor, who was a colleague at interior design firm Colefax and Fowler where Camilla also worked.

In the mid-1960s Camilla Shand, as she was then known, tried to make it in the London business world. But Taylor remembers the future royal had a boss who would not stand for any nonsense. She told the Sunday Times in 2016: "There were lots of debutantes working for us, even Camilla. She worked for us for a moment but got the sack."

Taylor recalled the boss of the company was somewhat temperamental. She said: "He would shout and bellow so the whole building heard every word. The Duchess of Cornwall was one assistant who fell victim to one of tantrums. I think she came in late having been to a dance."

Camilla was known to be fond of partying on the London scene and was photographed many times in her debutante year (1965) at lots of parties. She eventually met cavalry officer Andrew Parker-Bowles, who became her first husband. The couple had two children Laura and Tom, but divorced in 1995. In 2005 she married Charles after first meeting in the early 1970s.

Last month Queen Camilla stunned in a striking military-inspired outfit while taking part in a historic royal first. The Mirror reported how the 76-year-old met members of the Royal Lancers regiment and veterans at their barracks in Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, for the first time since she became its Colonel-in-Chief. She assumed the role with The Royal Lancers (Queen Elizabeth’s Own) last June, filling a job previously held by her late mother-in-law Elizabeth II.

And Camilla dressed for the occasion by wearing a navy coat by Fiona Clare inspired by the Royal Lancers uniform, which included gold buttons, a bright red mandarin collar and chain mail on the shoulders. She completed the look with a matching red beret with the regimental brooch adorned on it and another Royal Lancers brooch, which once belonged to the former monarch pinned to her coat

She then said: "The Lancers have always struck me for their family spirit, whose comfort and support I experienced as a daughter of the Regiment, and I'm delighted to see so many families and members of the Old Comrades Association here today. Particularly now, as so many of your loved ones look to deploy overseas."
