Phillip Schofield's TV move after Cast Away exposed as ITV return 'on cards'

Former This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield has been tipped to be a contestant on this year's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! following his shocking TV return.

After the announcement that the 62-year-old will host his own Channel 5 show, Cast Away, odds have been placed at 3/1 for him to venture into the Jungle next, according to bookmakers betideas.com. In addition to this, he's also been given odds of 5/1 to present a show on Channel 5, with a Celebrity Big Brother appearance at 6/1.

Further down the betting list are roles as a presenter on ITV (16/1), BBC (25/1). And despite his epic departure, a comeback to ITV's This Morning at 50/1, and an unlikely co-hosting role alongside Holly Willoughby at 66/1.

Sharing further insight into the findings Lee Astley, a spokesperson for betideas.com, said: "When it was announced that Phillip Schofield would return to our screens on his Channel 5 show, Cast Away, questions have been asked on what he’ll appear on next. With a trip to the Jungle this winter the most likely destination.

"A stint on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! has been tipped at 3/1 should Schofield want another survival challenge, with an appearance on Celebrity Big Brother slightly adrift at 6/1.

"Should Schofield want to redeem his presenting career in some capacity, he’s been tipped to present on Channel 5 at 5/1, Channel 4 at 12/1, while a fresh gig with former co-host Holly Willoughby looks unlikely at 66/1."

Phillip's appearance on Cast Away will be the first time he's been on television since leaving ITV's This Morning in May 2023. The star left the flagship programme after admitting to having a relationship with a much younger male colleague.

Last year, the scandal dominated headlines and caused a breakdown in his relationship with his former This Morning co-host, Holly Willoughby. The public turmoil also caused issues in his family life with his wife Steph admitting to feeling "devastated".

A preview clip from Cast Away which was released this week shows Schofield in tears while he expressed his thoughts on what happened. He said: "I know what I did was unwise, but is it enough to completely destroy someone?"

Although the former TV host may hope the move will allow him to reconnect with viewers, the show has already been met with criticism by the public, with some branding it a "disgrace" and labelling Philip as "narcissistic".

Cast Away airs on October 2, 2024 at 9:00PM on Channel 5.
