Niall Horan had to ditch his ride and hoof it to his own gig for the first time ever. The ex-One Direction heartthrob was set to serenade fans at Toronto's Scotiabank Arena, but when traffic turned chaotic, he opted to leg it instead.

Sharing his unusual journey on TikTok with the Proclaimers' anthem 'I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)' in the background, he quipped: "Traffic too crazy in Toronto, so I'm walking to the venue."

He continued, reflecting on his career: "In all my years of playing shows, I don't think I've ever walked into a venue."

And triumphantly upon reaching his destination, he exclaimed: "We've made it!". The 30 year old singer probably enjoyed the rare chance to stroll through the city unnoticed by admirers.

Previously, the 'Slow Hands' crooner opened up about the overwhelming nature of fame with One Direction, confessing to The Sun's Bizarre column that there were times he was petrified to step outside.

He recounted a harrowing experience: "There were periods where you'd go out and you wouldn't get five yards outside the door."

Recalling a particularly intense incident, he said: "I remember one time I stupidly went to Westfield (shopping mall), in West London, and honestly, swear to God, I was like, 'I'm going to die in here. I'm never getting out'. It was the fear of that which kept me in."

Horan admitted to becoming somewhat of a hermit during the peak of the band's fame: "I probably became a bit of a recluse in 2012, 2013, 2014... It was probably all in my head but I became a recluse because of the thought of going out, when I probably could have."

He reflected on the sudden rise to stardom and its impact: "There is a side of it where you've just come from zero to hero, the shock of it. It's a shock to the system and you're trying to live a normal life."

The singer from 'Heaven' hasn't joined his pals on stage since their break in 2015. Even though he's made quite a name for himself as a solo star, he confessed that nowadays he can live quite a peaceful life without any hassles.

He stated: "Now I live the most normal life I could possibly live. I can go to the shops and buy my own dinner and just general stuff. There was a period where if someone said, 'Do you want to grab a coffee? ' or 'Do you want to go for lunch? ' I'd have said absolutely not."
