NFL chiefs make huge schedule change in blow to Jalen Hurts and Joe Burrow

The NFL have decided to reschedule Sunday's game against the to make way for a rookie showdown between Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels.

The Chicago Bears vs Washington Commanders was initially set for 1pm ET this Sunday, but following the impressive starts of both rookie quarterbacks in the , they've been bumped up to a later TV slot, replacing Joe Burrow's Bengals trip to Jalen Hurts' Eagles. Now, the Williams vs Daniels match will be aired at 4.25pm ET, while Hurts and Burrow will compete in the earlier slot.

Both rookies have led their respective franchises to winning starts in 2024, with Williams being the first-overall selection by the Bears, and Daniels being the second-overall pick for the Commanders. Currently, Washington tops the NFC East with a 4-2 record, ahead of the Eagles, , and New York Giants.

Daniels boasts 1,404 passing yards for six touchdowns, two rushing touchdowns, and received praise from reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson after last weekend's defeat to the Baltimore Ravens.

Meanwhile, Williams has a 4-2 record with Chicago and has nine touchdowns for 1,317 passing yards. Although he hasn't scored a rushing touchdown himself, he has demonstrated his ability to move his team up the field with his feet.

In Sunday's London victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, Williams averaged 14 yards per carry in four attempts. NFL supporters have welcomed the league's decision, taking to social media to express their excitement. "Demoting Burrow and Hurts for Williams and Daniels. What a time," one fan commented.

"Imagine telling someone in Week 1 these two games would swap," another tweeted. A third fan added: "Both of those teams are better so it makes sense. More entertaining matchup as any Eagles game is a snooze fest."

Williams and Daniels have also demonstrated their dedication to continually improving their game, despite their rapid transition from college football to the NFL.

"There were a few things going on throughout the game that I've got to be better at, but the progress we've had is going to keep growing," Williams said, after beating the Jags at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

"We have great leaders and great personalities in this team. A bunch of guys contributed throughout the whole game, and then the offensive line to be able to do what they do, I'll always have love for the big guys and how they protect us. We wouldn't have this type of game without them."
