Mum-of-three given just weeks to live after heartbreaking diagnosis

A mum-of-three is facing her final weeks after being told a cancer diagnosis which has left her family shattered.

Sharon Bennett, 49, of Crewe, Cheshire, was dealt the crushing blow of breast cancer last November. After enduring chemotherapy and surgery eight weeks ago, Sharon's hope for recovery was dashed by another discovery. She had visited A&E with headaches and a CT scan showed she had an advanced cancer known as leptomeningeal cancer.

The rare and aggressive form of cancer targets the delicate tissues enveloping the brain and spinal cord. Doctors say she now has only a few weeks to live.

Natasha Austin, from Nantwich, has started a fundraising page for Sharon, who is also mother to 20-year-old Caley and seven-year-old Maya, to support the children when she is no longer around. Eldest daughter Natasha, 31, told CheshireLive: "It has been absolutely devastating. It's going to be difficult when she's not here.

"She was supposed to just wait for the surgery to heal and then undergo radiotherapy to make sure there were no rogue cancer cells.

"Unfortunately, she ended up in A&E three weeks ago with severe headaches, and they did a CT scan which showed leptomeningeal cancer.

"Cayley will become Maya’s legal guardian, and she’s not working at the moment. She had to quit her job as a carer when my mum became really poorly from chemotherapy.”

In preparation for the unbearable road ahead, Natasha, residing in Nantwich, has taken proactive steps to ensure the future care of Sharons children Caley, aged 20, and Maya, seven. She has initiated a fundraising initiative for her terminally ill mother.

Natasha added: "I want to make sure Cayley and Maya are looked after."
