This is the remarkable moment a wife dobs her drunk husband for drink-driving as he's being questioned by police.

Darius Kabelis, 49, is now facing a two-year driving ban after he was apprehended in Leverington on the night of August 18. Cops approached Kabelis after getting tipped off by a concerned individual who had been following the Ford Galaxy Ghia he steered.

The quick call to 999 led to his wife acknowledging her ownership of the vehicle and fessing up to officers: "Yes he is drunk." After investigations confirmed Kabelis was almost triple the legal alcohol limit and also lacked a valid driving licence, he faced charges for drink driving.

During his court appearance at Peterborough Magistrates' Court on Friday (September 6), he pleaded guilty to both offences. Along with the driving prohibition, Kabelis has been mandated to carry out 90 hours of unpaid work.

PC Stefan Almariei, the officer behind the investigation, commented: "Thanks to the call from the member of the public, our officers were able to locate Kabelis and put him before the courts." He further stressed that drink driving is incredibly dangerous and can lead to tragic results, expressing gratitude towards the caller for alerting the police, reports Cambridgeshire Live.

It comes after a solicitor found himself on the wrong side of the law after being caught drink driving when he decided to fill up his £60,000 Audi Q7 following two glasses of wine.

Geoffrey Underhill had already attracted police attention and had a 'marker' placed on his vehicle after previously admitting to sipping a pint of lager shandy post-work, according to court details. The 56-year-old was stopped seven times in just one week after landing on a 'drink driver' watchlist as part of a local authority 'safeguarding' probe over arguments at home.

He earned his spot on the list by confessing to his routine tipple of 75 per cent lager mixed with 25 per cent lemonade on his commute home. His latest run-in with the law saw him breathalysed by an officer at Lymm Services on the M6 in Cheshire on March 23, where he blew one and a half times over the legal limit, Warrington Magistrates' Court was told.
