Max Verstappen makes "savage" comment about F1 rival after race-changing Miami GP moment

Max Verstappen gave a brutal response to Logan Sargeant's crash at the Miami Grand Prix, with the incident having a major effect on the race.

McLaren's Lando Norris won his first F1 race in Miami and the Brit benefited from Sargeant's crash, which occurred when Kevin Magnussen made contact with his car. The safety car was deployed as a result of the incident, which allowed Norris to complete a pit stop without it costing him as much time as it normally would.

And Verstappen, who ultimately finished second behind Norris, made a savage quip about the incident in footage that has emerged from the F1 cooldown room. While highlights from the race, including Sargeant's crash, were playing on a TV in the room Verstappen could be heard saying: "At least they have a spare chassis now, right?"

His comments are a reference to the Australian Grand Prix, where Sargeant was forced to withdraw from the race by Williams team principal James Vowles after teammate Alex Albon crashed his car in practice.

Williams did not have a spare chassis on-site in Melbourne, meaning only one car could race for the remainder of the weekend and Vowles decided Albon had a better chance of scoring points than Sargeant.

Albon ultimately just missed out on scoring points as he finished 11th and Williams have yet to pick up a single point so far this season. And F1 fans found Verstappen's remark hilarious, with one commenting: "Straight up violation".

Another wrote: "lmao max is a savage". While a third added: "I can't lie Max's candid jokes have been cracking me up this season. He doesn't give a s***".

Williams did have a spare chassis with them in Miami for the first time this season and Albon admitted he is hopeful the team can now start focusing their efforts on improvements. "It's been a lot of effort from the team," he said.

"It feels like we've been playing catch up for most of the year, now with the chassis things are becoming a little bit more settled. Hopefully we can really start focusing more on updates and general developments of the car.

"It sounds bad of me to say but I don't [see it as a relief]. I don't think about it. I think I've said it before but if you start thinking about it you're already kind of at a loss. You can't let it [impact] your weekend."
