Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher tears into Tottenham star at fault for Arsenal loss

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher did not hold back with his criticism of Tottenham defender Cristian Romero after Arsenal emerged from the North London derby with all three points.

Spurs gave a good account of themselves during the fixture but ultimately came away from the game with nothing, as Gabriel Magalhaes' header secured a much-needed victory for the visitors.

Romero was tasked with marking Gabriel from the corner but was nudged out of the way by the Brazilian, who then headed home from six yards unmarked.

"Romero's start to the season has been very poor," Carragher posted on social media platform X. Romero has started four times for Tottenham this season and Ange Postecoglou's side has kept just one clean sheet.

Interestingly, in the Sky Sports studio, Paul Merson said he believed Gabriel's nudge on Romero was a foul and should've resulted in a free-kick to Tottenham.

"I would be disappointed if I didn't get a foul," Merson said. "[Romero] is in the wrong position, everything is wrong about his defending. He's an international centre-half. Even I know, and I don't play at the back, that you've got to be side-on, seeing the ball and your player. To start off with you've got to be a hand-length away [from him] and he was standing with him. I do think - I'd expect a foul. I would expect a foul."

Ian Wright, meanwhile, told Premier League Productions: "I was very surprised with Romero, it feels very easy for a defender of his calibre to be moved out of the way. I think it could have been a foul but not enough maybe. That just seems very simple when you look at the proximity from the goal and where he headed it in, It’s a very easy goal for Arsenal to score."
