Kate admitted it was starting to feel a bit too long to hang out in the country when she posted a , detailing her trip back home to . Liam chose not to go with her but Kate didn't specify a reason as to why. In her post, she admitted that she usually travels with a Squishmellow, but had given hers to Liam.

About 48 hours after the social media post, Liam was found dead after falling from his third floor hotel room. Kate has since shared a touching tribute to her late boyfriend. In the message posted to her Stories, Kate wrote: "Thank you for all of the kind words and love that has been sent my way.

"I have been at a complete loss. Nothing about the past few days have felt real. I ask and pray that you'll give me the grace and space to navigate this in private. Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam."

The pair were vacationing in after Liam made an appearance at the concert of his former bandmate, Niall Horan. In her TikTok post just four days before Liam's death, Kate said: "I was so ready to leave. Love South America, but I hate staying in one place for too long and we were supposed to be there for five days, turned into two weeks and I was just like, 'I need to go home.'"

She showed off her luxury flight home which included a steak meal. She also showed her boarding pass, made a joke about how her seat number was "1D," much like the band of her boyfriend. The singer, who had previous relationships with Cheryl Cole and Maya Henry, was first seen with Kate in October 2022.

They were rocked by split rumours in May 2023 but they were still dating and sharing snippets of their romance at the time of Liam's death. Liam revealed he felt he didn't need to hide his relationship with Kate from the . "I'm kind of at the place in my life now where I just realize it's not worth sacrificing my happiness just because somebody might see something," he said 2019 interview with "I don't have anything to hide."
