Janey Godley gave worried fans a health update from her hospital bed after she sadly revealed her cancer had spread.
The 63-year-old comedian cancelled her upcoming tour dates after she was readmitted to hospital due to a complication during her treatment for terminal ovarian cancer. The Glaswegian funnywoman sadly shared the news that her tour Why Is She Still Here? Would be cancelled, as doctors urged her to stop working “for the foreseeable future”. In a post on social media earlier this week, Janey revealed her cancer had spread and she had contracted sepsis, which was being treated, but told fans she'd barely been able to eat as she detailed her scary battle with the life-threatening infection.
On Thursday, Janey shared a video on Twitter/X as she updated her fans and followers, who had sent her supportive messages after she cancelled her comedy gigs. “Hey there, breakfast time. It’s nice to finally eat,” she said, as she munched on a slice of buttered toast. “I haven’t eaten much in eight days, but I’m getting there. I want to thank everybody in the Scottish NHS.”
She continued: “The domestic people, the cleaners, the nurses, the doctors, the phlebotomists, the pharmacists, the porters who have been pushing me all around the hospital to get scans and blood tests, the wee woman who comes in and changes my water, and the people who clean my room - just so many people are involved in the care of patients.”
“People often forget the wee ones who come in and say, ‘(do you want) a wee cup of tea?’” Janey explained, as she carried on eating her toast. “I have to eat small and often,” she added, after taking a huge bite of her breakfast. “I want to thank everyone for your love, and support. It’s been a long nine days getting sepsis,” she sighed.
“I’ve had lots of antibiotics intravenously, and lots of drugs,” Janey said, as she held up a piece of equipment that she was meant to carry around with her but kept forgetting. “Hopefully I’ll be well enough to go home,” she added, blowing a kiss to the camera.
Earlier this week, she assured fans that the sepsis was under control, but her cancer was spreading, so doctors had urged her to stop working. “I have to cancel my upcoming tour, I’m sorry but the cancer has spread and the Beatson cancer team have advised me to stop work. I am currently in hospital with sepsis ( it’s under control) pls contact your theatre for a refund – I’m sorry everyone,” Janey wrote in the heartbreaking statement.
“I know people booked hotels and trains and everything - I'm so, so sorry. If I could go in my hospital bed I would. But I'm going to be in hospital for another couple of days. Thank you so much for all your love and support,” she added.
