'I gifted a little-known perfume to my best friend for her wedding– she's still in love with it'

As someone who isn't married, I don't think I realised just how important a wedding day perfume was until my best friend started planning her wedding. Three years ago now, she went on a mission to find the perfect perfume, only to be left disappointed by the usual 'over-used' scents from big contenders like Chloé and Dior. She didn't feel like any were just that...special?

As a beauty journalist, I'm fortunate enough to have a good stash of perfumes. I'm also privy to some fragrance launches that never quite make it to consumer fame. Case in point, my favourite ever brand: ZarkoPerfume. Born in Denmark in 2008, it had a brief moment on SpaceNK over in the UK before it mostly retreated out of mainstream UK retailers.

Anyway, I've been using Zarko's Pink Molecule (my absolute favourite ever perfume) and MOLéCULE 234 EDP for years, so when my best friend said she wanted something special, I knew it was my maid of honour duty to send one of them her way. I picked MOLéCULE 234, and she said it was love at first spray.

Usually around £113 for a 100ml bottle, you can get it online for £61.94 on sale. As with molecular scents, it's tricky to do it justice with a description of its aroma, but I'll give it a go. When you spray it on your skin, Molécule interacts with your own own pheromones, making it unique to the wearer. On myself, it smells clean, fresh, slightly woody and ever so slightly powdery. I'd say it's a romantic perfume, which is why it's so perfect for weddings.

My best friend found the perfect combination by using this and then adding a spritz of Jo Malone's Peony & Blush Suede, £55, to give the Zarko scent a slight floral boost.

I'm not sure how long stock of Pink Molecule and MOLéCULE 234 will last since the brand seems to be leaving the UK, but if you like the idea of a molecular fragrance that smells different on your skin than anyone else's, I can also recommend Escentric Molecules Molecule 01, £115, which works in a similar way to blend with your pheromones to create a unique bouquet.
