I cleaned my toaster with one household item in minutes - no chemicals

There are a lot of appliances that get overlooked when it comes to cleaning, and my toaster is a victim of this. It sits there every day, making toast whenever I need, but do I clean it? Do I give it the love and attention it deserves for its hard work?

No, no I don't. So this weekend I decided it was finally time for a deep clean. And I have always found the best thing for getting rid of burnt-on rust marks on a toaster is an item you probably already have in your cupboard...

Tin foil to the rescue. The old wives had passed on their knowledge many years ago, so long ago now that I forget where I first heard about this hack. The tin foil and stains produce a chemical reaction that helps to dissolve the marks.

Firstly, always make sure your toaster is unplugged before you clean it, then if you take a little strip of tin foil and rub it along the metal of the toaster, in a soft buffing circular motion, it will remove the marks with ease in a matter of minutes with no scrubbing needed. I suggest tearing off a strip and folding it over so the shiny side is on the inside as it is the other side that performs best.

Then just rub over the area with the stains and it just lifts away. You will need to keep using fresh parts of the foil as once it has been used the effectiveness of removing marks decreases and I did find with my toaster I had to use another piece of tin foil once the first piece had become compacted from rubbing.

Occasionally, the shiny side has looked like it has left tiny scratches on the metal of my toaster, which is why I use the other side and why I like to use a fresh piece if it is not lifting stains anymore. My toaster was so sparkly after I did this, I could see my face in it.

There are a few stubborn marks that may require another hack, but this was so easy and had great results. Some also suggest scrunching up the tin foil and running it under water to make it damp, perhaps this is what I need to do to remove those remaining stains.

Others say you can use baking soda with a soft cloth to tackle brown stains on your toaster, while others recommend The Pink Stuff cleaning paste.
