Football match in EIGHTH TIER called off due to international call-ups

Send Push

An eighth-tier fixture set to take place this weekend has been postponed because two players have been called up for international duty in the Caribbean.

Lancing pair Knory Scott and Luke Robinson have linked up with Bermuda for their Concacaf Nations League double header against Dominica.

The south coast club had been due to face Three Bridges away. The home side had also attempted to move the game forward 24 hours, from Sunday to Saturday afternoon, because of a women’s tie already scheduled to take place at their temporary home in Chatham.

That led to Lancing sending a request to the Isthmian League for a postponement that was subsequently granted.

A statement from Lancing read: "The Isthmian League have agreed to postpone our match away at Three Bridges, originally scheduled for October 13th, due to the international call-ups of Knory Scott and Luke Robinson.

"Scott and Robinson have both been squad members of the Bermudian national team for some time and were called up to the latest squad last week to face Dominica on October 12th and again on October 15th in the Concacaf Nations League.

"Both players would have returned to England in time for the initial date of Sunday October 13th but Three Bridges were unable to play at their temporary home of The Bauvill Stadium, Chatham, after the scheduling of a women’s FA Cup tie on that date.

"A request was received from our hosts to move the date forward to Saturday October 12th but that would have meant Lancing fielding a weakened side for this important League clash.

"The club would like to thank the Isthmian League for their understanding and club secretary John Rea for his work at short notice on this matter."

Lancing are 20th in the Isthmian League South East Division with only one win from their opening eight games. But Three Bridges have equally only enjoyed a single victory but sit 16th thanks to three draws.
