Ex-Arsenal star says Tottenham can win Premier League title next season under one condition

Former Arsenal and Tottenham star, William Gallas, has backed Spurs to 'dream' of Premier League glory if they nail their summer transfer strategy.

Currently enjoying a promising first season under the helm of Australian boss Ange Postecoglou, the north London side are sitting fifth in the league - just seven points shy of the Champions League spots with six games remaining.

Gallas, who donned the Spurs jersey between 2010 and 2013, is confident that the team can achieve even more, provided they bolster their squad comprehensively, reports the Mirror. Speaking ahead of the North London derby on Sunday, he stated: "I think everything is possible at Tottenham next season.

"But if you want to have a team that is capable of fighting for the Premier League title, then you need to look at the depth of your squad. Tottenham will need to bring in more players if they want to challenge for the title. They will need reinforcements.

"If you look at the teams fighting for the title this season, their squads are stronger than Tottenham's. I think the fans can dream under the management of Postecoglou."

This sentiment is echoed by fellow ex-Spurs player Pascal Chimbonda, who has urged Postecoglou to strengthen the core of his team, including the addition of a new star striker.

He said: "Strengthening the team this summer is so important; we need to add depth. First of all, I think we need to add some more quality at the back, maybe one or two new centre-backs.

"I'd also like to see us add a midfielder when the transfer window opens. Someone like a Claude Makelele who doesn't even think about attacking; all he thinks about is protecting the back four."

After losing Harry Kane, Postecoglou has also made it quite clear that he has a target up front. Chimbonda added: "Then, the obvious area for me would be up-front; we need to bring someone in who is capable of scoring 20-25 goals a season because we lost that when Harry Kane left last summer. Ollie Watkins is very good. He's strong, he's powerful and he knows where the goal is.

"Dominic Solanke is the same; he's a big guy who has shown he's capable of scoring goals. Both have Premier League experience and, for someone like Solanke who plays for Bournemouth ... while I don't want to say they're a small club, you'd expect that if Solanke was to sign for a bigger team in the league, he'd probably find himself scoring even more goals."
