Every word Enzo Maresca said on Chelsea win vs Gent, Dewsbury-Hall goal and Veiga performance

Enzo Maresca has spoken to the media following Chelsea's 4-2 win over Gent at Stamford Bridge.

The kicked off their UEFA Conference League league phase campaign with three points against the Belgian side thanks to goals from Renato Veiga, , and . was understandably delighted with another impressive performance from his side, who have now won five on the bounce in all competitions.

Here is every word the Italian had to say post-match:

Team scoring goals for fun...

"We are performing not only in attack but defensively very well. We are happy. I need to repeat always the same: For sure, we can do many, many things better - we can attack better and defend better. Tonight probably the most important thing we can learn is even if we are 4-1 [up], even to the final whistle you have to switch on, you cannot switch off.

"I think we conceded the second goal just because we saw the game was already finished. I think if we want to be one step forward, even when you are 4-1 and the game is almost finished, you need to continue and not concede another goal. We are really happy with the performance. We approached it very well. These games are never easy. So I am very happy with the performance and the result."

Dewsbury-Hall, the goal was important for him...

"I know Kiernan very well from last year. I completely understand how difficult it is in this moment for Kiernan in terms of he was the main player at Leicester, you join Chelsea and you become one of the players. You are on the bench, you are not in the squad, you are not playing from the start, so you struggle a little bit at the beginning.

"But he needs to understand the reason he is here is because we want him. The celebration [from Maresca] is probably because I know he needs that. This is the reason why."

Is it helpful having two teams?

"We do not have two teams. It is one team, only one team. The ones that are playing tonight does not mean they cannot play Sunday or the next Premier League game. In this moment it is like this but the important thing is that changing players, you can see the identity of the team.

"The last game against Brighton, tonight, the Barrow game, the West Ham game. This is the most important thing. We continue in the same way. For sure, I can understand in this moment it is like this but in football things can change very quickly.

"The last three or four games, since we started, the identity is clear, the purpose is clear. For sure, 100%, we can do many, many things better. We can attack better. Tonight I think we attacked very well.

"They were a low block and we were trying to find a solution in the last two days to prepare for this game. Defensively we pressed very well, when we lose the ball we tried to recover it immediately. For sure, there are things we can improve like the two goals we conceded; especially the second one. The first one can happen, the second one, we can avoid that."

What have you made of Cesare Casadei?

"Cesare played very good against Barrow and even better tonight. I am very happy with the way he is playing. I had Cesare last year and he was playing a little bit in different position.

"This year, we are using him like a holding midfielder. The reason why is because I think we go in the direction where the middle you need physical players. Cesare is very big, physically strong and helps us when we want to press. On the ball, he is improving a lot. Tonight he played one touch, so we are very happy. For him, it's the same as the rest; many things he can do better but he is in the right direction."

Renato Veiga has played perhaps more games than people expected...

"It's similar to Cesare Casadei in terms of physicality. He is tall, he is big. Tonight he played like an attacking midfielder, in the pocket for the first time of the season for us. He did very well. You never imagine Renato arriving in the box and scoring from the other side. That means he is doing well.

"When we needed him as a holding midfielder against Bournemouth, he was there. The other day against Brighton, as a full-back. He is versatile. Tonight he was playing like an attacking midfielder but overall I think he did well."

Nkunku has been called up to the France squad. This is a big day for him...

"It's a big day. We are all happy. I knew the information from this afternoon and I was very happy. He deserves it. He is doing well with us. Also, the last time we had Noni Madueke also and Renato Veiga also with the international team [being called up], so it is good for the squad to have more players there."

But Nkunku's start to his Chelsea career has not been exactly how he wanted with the injuries...

"Yeah, exactly, and the same with Wes Fofana. I am very happy for both of them. We do not have doubts for them in terms of players and how they are playing, so we are very happy."

What do you think about FIFA saying you need to bring a 'strong squad' for the Club World Cup?

"It's okay. For sure, we are going to try always for every game, going with a strong team. Even tonight, the idea was to rest but put out a strong team. We will do the same for every game."
