Chicago Bears legend Shaun Gayle still proudly sports his Super Bowl ring, 39 years after leading his team to a historic victory over the New England Patriots.

The iconic safety's performance on that unforgettable day, which included an impressive interception and fumble recovery, helped secure a 46-10 win and cemented his status as a true Bears hero. Known for his creativity, flair, and relentless determination, Gayle's legacy is one of hard work and grit, symbolised by his cherished Super Bowl ring.

Above all, Gayle was a fierce competitor who thrived on the excitement of game day, always stepping up when his beloved team needed him. Now at 62, his days on the field may be behind him, but his passion for the sport remains undimmed. It's no wonder he takes such pleasure in reflecting on the game that secured his place in NFL history.

In an exclusive chat with Mirror Sport, he reminisced: "We had played the Patriots earlier that year and had beaten them. They had revenge on their minds. But we knew that day was our day. We had such a good time playing that game. I don't want to be disrespectful, the Patriots had a pretty great team that season. But we were unstoppable."

It's no surprise that Gayles pinnacle moment still holds an exceptional place in his heart. As expected, the Ohio State University alumni turned heads at the Chicago Bears Girls-Only NFL Flag League Launch in Manchester, England, by flaunting the jewel most footballers can only dream of.

In a cheerful mood, he said, "I tend to break it out when I'm going to be around Bear family." With eyes on making flag football the star attraction at the 2028 LA Olympics, the Chicago Bears are leaving no stone unturned in empowering young girls with sporting opportunities they've long been denied.

Determined to pave the way for the young generation, Gayle, the proud father of two daughters, is making strides in both the US and UK. His mission? Proving that theres nothing girls cant achieve. Needless to say, the budding talents he witnessed left him more than impressed.

He joyously shared, "I've seen some girls throw the ball in a way that would make a lot of boys blush. Watching them put their jerseys on was great. They became part of the Bear family all the way back in Chicago, Illinois. I told them to believe in themselves."

Championing girls' participation in all sports, he said: "I'm always in favor of girls' involvement in all sports. The fact that the Bears are doing this is fantastic for everybody. Just look at the number of girls that showed up and how they're approaching this; they're focused, want to be part of something great, and believe in one another. That's how you start to grow a sport."

Gayle watched on with great joy as the future hopes went toe-to-toe in riveting fixtures. With his wise words for everyone present, he advised: "Don't give up; greatness takes time."
