Channel 4 host Emily Maitlis can't hide true feelings about Nadine Dorries in awkward clip

Hosting Channel 4's election coverage throughout the night must be no easy task for this year's hosts, Emily Maitlis and Krishna Guru-Murthy.

With a whole range of political voices from the far right with Ann Widdecomb, as well as Kwasi Kwarteng and Nadine Dorries, to more left of centre voices like Labour's Dawn Butler Brent and Alistair Campbell, the veteran journalists had a lot of competing voices to cope with.

As the election night show continued into the early hours, experienced broadcaster Emily Maitlis appeared to struggle at one point to hide how she felt about one of the panellists, former Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries. Viewers noticed her give a cutting look that left some viewers in stitches.

After pressing the former Culture Secretary and close friend of Boris Johnson repeatedly for the former Prime Minster's view on the dismal election result for the Tories, and getting nowhere, Maitlis had to face away from Dorries. Her face showed the same look of exasperation that many voters will have experienced during the election campaign, as they too watched politicians avoid the questions posed to them.

One X user commented, dripping with sarcasm: "Emily Maitlis doing a marvellous job of hiding her view of Nadine Dorries here."

The incident occurred after Dorries revealed that she had been texting Boris Johnson while she was live on air, prompting both presenters, rightly, to ask her what he thought of the historic defeat of the party he was once leader of. However, Dorries was quick to divert.

"Do you think that Boris Johnson will come back into the Conservative Party in some form?"

To which the former cabinet minister "Ill just make the same point again, Reform..." At which, perplexed, Maitlis intervened saying "Don't make the same point again!"

The veteran journalist kept pressing her point, continuing: "Is he saying 'Well God get me away from this party', or 'they need me and this is my case'?" But Dorries stonewalled her again live on air, responding "That's not the discussion," while refusing to elaborate.

Exasperated at getting nowhere, Maitlis was forced to look away, perhaps thinking about the long hours left of the election night programme.
