BBC Strictly Come Dancing viewers distracted by Tess and Claudia's appearance

Strictly Come Dancing made a return to our TV screens as 15 famous faces took to the dance floor hoping to impress the judges and viewers at home.

Presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman took on their regular hosting duties on Saturday night following last week's successful first show of the series.

However, just minutes into the live show, it was the presenting duo's outfits that had stolen the spotlight as distracted viewers compared them to Wicked characters Glinda and Ephebe.

Claudia graced the stage in a glittery green dress, while Tess went all out in a pink off-the-shoulder number.

Tess started off by saying: “Welcome to Strictly Come Dancing.” Claudia continued: “Tonight our 15 couples will be dancing for your vote at home for the very first time.”

“The competition has only just begun,” Tess jumped in and said: “No one wants to leave this early and we don’t want to lose anyone.”

Claudia turned to her co-star and said: “We do not but tomorrow night, two couples will face the dance-off.” Tess then introduced the judges as she added: “So tonight not only do the couple have to impress you but also these four.”

Viewers and the live studio audience were then joined by judges Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood, and Anton Du Beke as they danced their way to their seats.

Fans watching at home were distracted by Tess and Claudia’s looks and it didn’t take long for fans to rush straight to social media and share their reaction to the look. One Fan wrote: "Not a fan of either outfit from Tess and Claud this week #strictly."

Another wrote: “Following Claudia’s appearance as a Jedi last week, Tess has come this week as Barbie.” One fan asked: “Why are Claudia and Tess dressed like Elphaba and Elinda?? #StrictlyComeDancing.”

A third commented: “Tess and Claudia channeling their inner Elphaba and Glinda for tonight's episode #Strictly.”

Another asked: “Are Claudia and Tess in Wicked? #StrictlyComeDancing.” Meanwhile, one fan added: I love that Tess and Claudia have come dressed as Glinda and Elphaba.”

The tension has started to ramp up for week two as one celebrity couple will go home for good, during the first elimination on Sunday night.

The power is now in fans' hands as viewers have the opportunity to vote and hopefully save their favourite duo.

Last week, the stars and their professional partners performed for the first time together, and following their performance Love Island star Tasha Ghouri and JLS star JB Gill are currently leading the betting odds.

However, it’s not looking good for fellow contestants Toyah Wilcox and Neil Jones as bookies are predicting an early departure for the pair.

The duo failed to win over the judges and found themselves at the bottom of the leaderboard.

It's been revealed that the judges and professional dancers will perform “avant-garde gothic tango" to Prince’s When Doves Cry and New Order’s Blue Monday on the first results show.

Strictly Come Dancing live show airs every Saturday on BBC One and iPlayer
