Emmanuel Petit has suggested that and flop may join newly-promoted Championship side if they can afford his wages.
Sterling, 30, , has made 26 appearances across all competitions, netting one goal and setting up five others. Despite his limited role under Mikel Arteta, averaging just 41 minutes per game, he has been unable to secure a regular spot in the starting eleven, even with multiple injuries to key forwards.
The Arsenal head coach has given no signs of wanting to make Sterling's move permanent, leaving Chelsea with a player they do not need.

And ex-Blues and Gunners midfielder Petit has offered his view on Sterling's future. He admits that joining a team lower down the football pyramid may be tricky.
"Chelsea would be happy to let Raheem Sterling go with only a year left on his contract, the issue for Wrexham would be how much the wages are," Petit told BesteOnlineCasinoNederland.
"He is probably on over £300,000 a week and Wrexham would have to offer him a great package to convince him to sign. It would be interesting to see, but Ryan Reynolds would have to get the chequebook out.
"When it comes to Sterling in the Premier League, we all know he isn’t the same player he once was."
In February, Arteta demanded more from Sterling after a disappointing start to the season. The Chelsea loanee had scored just once in 19 games for the Gunners, finding the net against Bolton in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
Speaking to reporters, the Arsenal boss said: "He has to have it because we really need him. Raheem is so experienced, and like many other players, we know that what you did yesterday is not whether it was really good or not.
"That could be relevant to the next game, to the next action. He's fully focused, he's trained really well this week, and he is ready to go again."
