A woman has let fans in on her top hack to banish mould from shower grout without having to scrub for hours.

In a video shared to cleaning fanatic @sisterpledgecleans showed her preferred method for getting the gleam back in her bathroom.

The clip showed her targeting some seriously grungy grout with a spray of Astonish and mildew buster, following up with a rather innovative step of applying toilet paper onto the area. She advises: "Use this hack to remove mould and mildew from your grouting. Stick toilet roll to the grouting and saturate with product to make it stick. Leave it overnight then remove."

Her results spoke volumes as she showed off the silicone strips, which had shed about 90% of their stains post-treatment. People were quick to comment on the clip, with one person writing: "Love this, thank you." Another echoed the sentiment: "I used Domestos last night and left it with tissue all night, it worked. I would say 80% it works."

Meanwhile another chimed in with a success story: "I used Domestos bleach and it worked." As it happens, she’s not alone in singing the praises of this nifty technique; other social media users have recognised its effectiveness too.

On Reddit's DIYUK thread, another homeowner tipped their hat to the same procedure. One person asked: "Why does this seem to happen at every flat we've lived in and how can we get rid of/prevent it permanently? ".

One user advised: "The best solution I've found is to get some wet toilet paper, press it up to the affected area and soak it in bleach. Leave it for 24 hours and check it. Won't be perfect and may need a few rounds but it's either that or replace the silicone."

Another chimed in with a success story, saying: "This 100% Had great results in our bathroom." Meanwhile, another shared: "This might be worth a try before you replace it. I did this in my flat and it killed off all the mould and looked brand new. Just repeated the process about a year later when it started getting bad again. If you have more willpower than I, clean it with a bleach based product more often to prevent future issues."
