Adrian's emotional tribute to Liverpool fans says everything about cult hero

Adrian has released a video gushing about his time at Liverpool, celebrating the lifelong lessons he learned across a half-decade with the English giants.

The backup goalkeeper, 37, confirmed his Anfield exit on Sunday. He made 26 competitive first-team appearances for the Merseyside club after arriving from West Ham in 2019, famously helping Jurgen Klopp's team win the Premier League title in 2020.

"In five years, you have shown me so many things," Adrian said. "That wearing the Liverpool shirt, and defending the Liverpool badge at Anfield, should be added to the seven wonders of the world. That 11 yards is nothing when it comes to winning a title. That London is really Anfield South.

"That tradition is important and should be protected. That You'll Never Walk Alone is not just an anthem, it's a philosophy of life. Now, it's time for me to share all of these experiences I have learned. I will be grateful to you for life."

While rarely seeing the field, Adrian was present for one of the most successful periods in Liverpool history, his departing message paying homage to several special moments. Adrian made 11 of his 14 top-flight appearances for Liverpool during its Premier League title-winning season - maintaining a fairly impressive defensive record by conceding just 10 goals.

Adrian's quip terming London "Anfield South" refers to Liverpool's remarkable dominance over capital city clubs during the Spaniard's time there, losing just four away EPL matches against the city's three biggest teams (Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham) dating back to 2019. Meanwhile, his addition of "11 yards means nothing" likely refers to Adrian's role in the 2019 UEFA Super Cup, saving Tammy Abraham's penalty to win a thrilling 7-6 penalty shootout and secure a trophy during his first-ever appearance for the club.

Prior to his arrival at Liverpool, Adrian was the top-choice goalkeeper for West Ham United, who enjoyed historic success during the club's final season at Upton Park. In 2015-2016, Adrian made 32 starts as the Hammers finished seventh in the Premier League, their joint-highest finish since 1999.

Adrian could return to boyhood club Real Betis as a free agent this summer, where he began his career. Adrian's enduring passion for Liverpool was celebrated by the club, however, releasing a statement on social media honoring the goalkeeper's contributions.

"Adrian departs Liverpool this summer having made a valuable contribution to the club’s successes across his five years at Anfield, the statement read. "A popular figure among teammates and staff alike, Adrian leaves the Reds with the best wishes of everybody at the club. Thank you for everything [Adrian]."
